Mimi Carter – Simpson Meadows
“My dog feels at home here, too.” “My son was with me when I visited, and he liked it. That helped my decision.” It also helped that on that first visit, she saw a resident in the hallway with her dog, and knew Oreo would be at home. Keep smiling Mimi was born in the Overbrook section of Philadelphia and went to West Catholic before earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Villanova.
Gus Santos – Jenner’s Pond
Gus Santos and his wife, Inge, have lived outside the US and traveled to many countries and states in the US. They looked at retirement living in Florida and in the mid-Atlantic. Ultimately, the couple chose Jenner’s Pond. “We had a trial period in one of the apartments here and visited the cottages and had meals with the community,” Gus recalls. “The cottages were a nice size. The other places we had visited were about half the size.”
JAMES T. CLANCY JOINS SIMPSON AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AT JENNER’S POND
West Grove, PA, February 15, 2023 – Simpson announces the appointment of James T. Clancy, LNHA, to the position of executive director for Jenner’s Pond, a continuing care retirement community in West Grove, Chester County. “We are pleased to welcome Jim Clancy to the Simpson organization,” says Carol McKinley, PhD, Simpson’s president and chief executive officer. “His extensive experience and his energy will be an asset to both team members and residents at Jenner’s Pond.”
Mary Lou McKee – Jenner’s Pond
“It’s a really wonderful place to live with values that I admire.” “Every person we encountered here was caring and attentive—not in a hurry to get out of a conversation,” says Mary Lou McKee, who moved to Jenner’s Pond with her husband, David, in 2014. “It didn’t feel clique-ish. People went out of their way to say ‘hello’ and invite you to their table. We felt very comfortable here.”
George & Jessie Hellhake – Simpson Meadows
George and Jessie Hellhake have lived in a lot of different places. Before moving to Simpson Meadows in late 2021, they had spent 16 years in a large 55-plus community in central Florida—but it was far from their three sons and their families—six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. “Our children asked us to move closer,” says the couple, who have reconnected with friends from their days of living in Downingtown and Eagle.
Betty Venditta – Simpson Meadows
“I enjoy all of the people here, the residents and the staff are wonderful!” Betty Venditta moved to Simpson Meadows in 2021 mostly because of the location, she says. “It’s my home town—my friends, family and doctors are here.” Since then, she has discovered even more to love about the community. “It’s comfortable and they feed us well,” she notes. “I enjoy all of the people, the residents. And the servers in the kitchen are wonderful!” “I enjoy going to the community shows,” Betty notes. A lifelong Downingtown resident, Betty was born in 1928 and grew up across the street
Loretta Maley – Simpson House
“People are friendly here. The staff is empathetic and they listen.” Although Loretta Maley had driven past Simpson House for 50 years, she didn’t get to know and appreciate what it offered until after her husband passed. That’s when she and a neighbor started visiting communities. Loretta found Simpson to be an affordable option. She also loved the diversity of the community she found at Simpson House—a quality she experienced during the decade she spent teaching English at Overbrook High. “That was an incredible experience—something I never imagined,” she says. “I have found that here—the friendliness. “You never know what
Hugh and Linda Wyles – Jenner’s Pond
“Jenner’s Pond is really home. We have been super comfortable here.” Hugh and Linda Wyles loved their 55-plus community. “But rather than waiting until we are 80,” they said to each other, “let’s move in our 70s and meet people.” So, in January 2022, they moved to an independent living apartment in the Ewing Building overlooking the gardens at Jenner’s Pond.
Anne Adams – Jenner’s Pond
“The campus is spectacular. The cost is affordable, but the community is upscale.” Staying sharp by staying active When Anne Adams moved to Jenner’s Pond in November 2022, she noticed that the in-house Morrie’s Pub was closed on Saturday nights. Recognizing that Saturday can be a lonely night for single people, she volunteered to tend bar to make sure it stayed open.
Freda Egnal – Simpson House
“There is lots of diversity here, which I find very attractive. The residents are friendly and interesting. ” Dedicated to making a difference Freda Egnal has social justice in her genes. In the 1930s, her parents helped unionize Philadelphia teachers. Freda had a long career as a social worker and community organizer, and for 40 years served as a block captain and committee person for West Philadelphia’s 46th Ward. “I love being involved in activities and organizations that make the world a better place,” says Freda. “I got very engaged with the people I worked with and made an impact.”
Barbara Donaldson – Simpson Meadows
“I love living here. I’m involved in all of the activities—they provide a lot for us to do.” Simple pleasures “Be happy where you’re planted. My grandmother used to say that,” says Barbara Donaldson, who planted herself at Simpson Meadows in June 2022. She made the decision based on sound advice from a professional.
