Artist She’s Called Simpson House Home Since 2021 The fine art of doing what you love Creative people bring their visions to life. Those dreams might become drawings or paintings—or they might manifest as opportunities for others. Judy Ballinger, a resident of Simpson House since 2021, is creative in all those ways and more.
Engineer He’s Called Jenner’s Pond Home Since 2019 Learning what matters in life Mark Bendett earned multiple degrees, received several awards and fellowships, holds 60 patents, and has traveled all over the world—but that’s not what’s most important to him.
What’s it like to live in senior living? If you lived at Simpson House, it could be as fun-filled and fulfilling as you want it to be. Just ask Marjorie Redford. “My friends tell me I’m involved in everything,” says Marjorie, who takes full advantage of all the opportunities available at this Philadelphia retirement community.
Civil Servant She’s Called Jenner’s Pond Home Since 2018 A blueprint for peace of mind Marilyn Asam spent most of her career managing the construction of Social Security Administration (SSA) buildings throughout the mid-Atlantic region. It’s a job that involves paying attention to detail, looking ahead, and planning for contingencies. It’s no surprise, then, that Marilyn and her husband, Ed, chose to retire to Jenner’s Pond—even though they had initially picked another community.
Nurse She’s Called Simpson Meadows Home Since 2021 Intentional decisions. Interesting life. Joanne Walker, RN, says, “Love each life stage as you get to it—don’t worry about what’s to come.” That philosophy has guided her through a sometimes unconventional, always rewarding life. A Baltimore native, she has lived around the world and now makes her home at Simpson Meadows.
Music Enthusiast She’s Called Simpson House Home Since 2017 Music makes the world go ‘round Carol Resko was born in Pittsburgh and raised in a mill town in western Pennsylvania by parents who loved symphony, opera, and big band so she was exposed to music at an early age. Perhaps it’s not surprising that when the pandemic demanded lockdowns and distancing, Carol spread music—and smiles—throughout Simpson House.
One of the many great advantages of living in a retirement community is not having to plan meals or cook. It’s also a good reason to consider what comes out of the kitchen when you choose where you’re going to live. In recognition of the importance of food to all facets of our well-being, Simpson brought Sodexo on board to handle dining services at all its senior living communities and charged them with bringing and maintaining a high level of authentic service, listening to residents and ensuring resident engagement.
Choosing to remain in your home sounds like a great idea until the responsibilities of homeownership start to become a hassle. Fortunately, you don’t have to keep your house to stay close with friends and family in your retirement years. That’s the dream that has come true for many of our residents at Simpson Meadows. In our uniquely intimate senior living community that offers independent living, independent living with support, assisted living, and memory care in Downingtown, PA., our approximately 145 residents live their lives surrounded by familiar faces.
Michelle Gollapalli, MBA, CFRE, CAP®, has been named to a two-year term as chair of Simpson's board of directors. “This is heart-centered work,” says Gollapalli, who was raised by her grandparents and sees her involvement in senior services as a way to honor them. “I want to continue Simpson’s legacy of innovation, and I look forward to working with the board and the leadership team to showcase the work they are doing for our residents to the outside world.” Gollapalli is vice president of diversity, inclusion & development at ECRI Institute in Plymouth Meeting, PA and immediate past chair of
Simpson includes retirement communities in and around Philadelphia that offer senior independent living apartments and cottages, personal care and assisted living, memory support, short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing care, therapy, respite care and home care.
